Allentown police didn't have a long drive to respond to a weekend shooting. The Allentown PD is investigating a shooting in the area of the Hamilton Tower apartment building in the 400 block of Hamilton Street Sunday evening. That's right across the street from City Hall and police station. At least one person was shot and taken to the hospital. No further details have been released.
Some residents in Bethlehem Township were forced to stay inside for hours Sunday night. Police say they were called to Winfield Terrace, near Sheridan Drive for an armed, barricaded person. Residents were told to shelter in place. State police and SWAT team were called in to assist township officers. The resident came out of the home around 11:30 last night. Authorities haven't said what led to the situation or if any charges will be filed.
The Palmer Elementary School in the Easton Area School District will be closed all week after a second positive coronavirus test. The school says they're unable to complete sufficient contact tracing and has decided to close for the entire week out of an abundance of caution. Likewise, Northampton Area High School will also be closed all week after two COVID-19 cases were reported last Friday. The two cases leaves the high school with seven over the past two weeks.
Republican Sen. Pat Toomey says reports of Election Day irregularities are nothing new and should be taken seriously. "Every election has some irregularities. We've had some in Pennsylvania in the past. We had some in Pennsylvania this time. They should be adjudicated. If people have seen, if there's evidence of fraud, by all means go into a federal court, get it corrected, punish the wrong doers, correct the vote count and do what we need to do," Toomey says. However, Toomey tells CBS' Face the Nation media projections that Joe Biden has defeated President Trump are probably correct. While Biden is on his way to the White House, Toomey says Democrats' likely failure to win the Senate and loss of seats in the House are a broader rejection of leftist ideology.
New Jersey officials are getting ready to take action against the rise in coronavirus cases. Gov. Phil Murphy is urging residents to continue taking the coronavirus pandemic seriously. The state reported 2043 new cases Sunday and more than 3200 on Saturday. Murphy has warned on several occasions that New Jersey is dealing with the second wave of coronavirus and last week said that actions to combat the virus will be taken "sooner rather than later."
After being hammered 35-19 by Maryland, Penn State finds itself 0-3 for the first time since 2001. Head coach James Franklin is searching for answers. "We're being tested right now. I've never been through this situation," Franklin says. Penn State will attempt to avoid an 0-4 start when the Nittany Lions visit Nebraska this Saturday.
