Accu-Weather's Joe Lundberg has said all week it would snow today and it is. "Between now and midday tomorrow we're going to see snow at varying rates. At times it'll be pretty steady and come down pretty hard and other times it'll be very, very light and non-accumulating and I think that type of snow is coming tonight into tomorrow before it finally comes to a complete end," Lundberg says. Lundberg figures snowfall totals to fall in the six-to-ten inch range.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health added 3413 new cases of coronavirus Wednesday, pushing the total to date to 902,650. More than 55,000 of those cases have been in Lehigh and Northampton counties. 193 new coronavirus-related deaths were also reported yesterday, leaving the state's overall number at 23,319.
Pennsylvania's COVID-19 vaccination efforts have taken a hit. "Some providers inadvertently used the Moderna vaccine shipped to them intended as second doses, as first doses," says Acting Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Alison Beam. She says that means the second dose of the Moderna shot may be pushed towards the back end of the 28-42 day window to get that shot, meaning vaccinations could be delayed for about 100,000 people. Lehigh Valley Health Network says it will reschedule about 1500 appointments for second doses that had been scheduled for tomorrow. St. Luke's University Health Network says it will reschedule appointments as well. The Pfizer vaccine is not affected in any way.
The Bethlehem Health Bureau is canceling all scheduled COVID-19 vaccination appointments for today due to the winter storm. Those who were scheduled to receive a dose of the vaccine today will be moved to tomorrow instead at the same time. Officials are urging everyone who was scheduled today to make every effort to make tomorrow's clinic as future appointments are not guaranteed.
Former President Donald Trump says he spoke to Rush Limbaugh a few days before Limbaugh's passing Wednesday morning. "Three or four days ago I called him and he was very, very sick. He was very courageous," Trump said. Limbaugh died after a yearlong fight with lung cancer. He was 70 years old.
