An 18-year-old man is in custody for allegedly stabbing his mother's boyfriend to death in South Whitehall Township. Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin says Gabriel Stettler stabbed Miles Brickhouse Jr. after he became upset when Brickhouse had been staying with his mother for several weeks. Police were called to an apartment in the 1900 block of West Woodlawn Avenue Sunday morning to find Stettler and Brickhouse both injured with several stab wounds. Monica Stettler, who lives at the apartment, told officers Brickhouse and Stettler had begun to fight and during that time, her son retrieved a knife and stabbed Brickhouse. The Lehigh County coroner ruled his death a homicide.
Pennsylvania State Police say a 72-year-old Bethlehem man is dead following a crash in Monroe County. It happened just after 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon on Kunkletown Road at Lakeview Drive in Ross Township. Jeffry Semprini was traveling east on Kunkletown Road and failed to negotiate a left curve in the roadway. Semprini crossed onto the shoulder of the roadway, traveled on grass and ended up in a shallow creek bed. He died at the hospital.
A hiker is dead after falling off a trail in Carbon County. The incident happened yesterday when a 72-year-old woman fell off the Glen Onoko Falls trail. Police say the victim was taken to the hospital for a serious head injury before she was later pronounced dead. The woman's name has not been released yet, but officials say she was a member of the Philadelphia Korean Hiking Club. The trail is currently closed and anyone caught hiking on it will face a fine.
Sunday's snow won't be melting until later in the week according to Accu-Weather's Joe Lundberg. "Today is easily the coldest day of the week, by far. Temperatures won't get out of the 20s and wind chills in the single digits all day long. We bottom out at ten tonight," Lundberg says. He says after a cold Monday and Tuesday, we may reach 60 degrees later in the week.
St. Sen. Scott Martin has dropped out of the race for Pennsylvania governor. The Republican released a statement saying he's no longer able to campaign the way he'd like to after he injured his leg in January. He says the injuries included a severing of ligaments and tendons in his ankle and that the injury will require greater and longer rehabilitation than he'd hoped. Martin adds that continuing to campaign in the coming months would have put his future ability to walk in danger.
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy says school mask mandates there are ending March 7th. The CDC, meanwhile continues to recommend universal masking inside educational settings. Speaking on CBS' "Face the Nation" Murphy defends his decision. "The fact of the matter is, our experience is very different right now from the average American state experience. The science and the data and the facts on the ground in New Jersey have allowed us to take this step," Murphy says. New Jersey schools and child care facilities could continue to keep masking mandates in place if they choose to.
The Indianapolis Colts may be jumping on the quarterback carousel. Indianapolis will reportedly trade or release quarterback Carson Wentz. The Colts would need to move him by March 18th to pay less of his base salary. The Colts traded their first-round pick in this year's draft to Philadelphia for Wentz last February.
