Here's what's trending for January 24.

Accu-Weather's Joe Lundberg says Wednesday is going to be a wintry, sloppy day. His official forecast is for a coating to an inch or snow before it changes over to a snow/sleet/rain mix and then eventually all rain. However, Lundberg it certainly could bring more snow than just a coating to an inch. "Some of the models are suggesting that there's an initial band of snow that develops that misses us to the north. If that doesn't miss us, then I think one-to-three inches is more appropriate, but if it stays to our north and then we wait for the reat of the precipitation to come in early in the afternoon, then I think a coating to an inch is much more appropriate because I don't think it will waste much time going over to rain," Lundberg says. He expects snow in the morning, the mix in the afternoon and then all rain late afternoon into tomorrow night.

A former DeSales University priest has been sentenced in a child pornography case. William McCandless was sentenced to 37 months in prison and 15 years of supervised release and was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine. McCandless pleaded guilty in July 2022 to a charge of attempting to access with intent to view child pornography. He was accused of gathering thousands of child pornography images in Monaco, where he was an advisor to the Royal Family, and bringing them back to the U.S. in January 2017, just a few days before he started working at DeSales. He was fired from DeSales in October 2017 when the school learned of the investigation.

Less than a month after returning to the Lehigh County district attorney's office and less than a week after DA Jim Martin announced he isn't seeking re-election this year, Gavin Holihan says he wants to replace Martin. After years in private practice, Holihan returned to the DA's office as first assistant district attorney. In a statement, Holihan says, "Lehigh County is home for me and my family and it is an honor to serve our neighbors and keep our community safe." He's got the backing of Martin, who says, "His experience speaks for itself; no one knows this office and this courthouse better than Gavin Holihan. He’ll be able to hit the ground running Day 1 and he will serve the people of Lehigh County well.”

State officials say COVID numbers are down across the commonwealth. The Pennsylvania Department of Health is reporting just over eleven-thousand new cases over the last week. That's about 15-thousand fewer than the week before. The officials note state residents have seen about three-and-a-half million infections since the COVID pandemic started nearly three years ago.

State health officials say the transmission rate of COVID-19 is falling across the Garden State. Officials say the state recorded another 954 cases of the virus and 13 more fatalities. The statewide transmission rate fell from 8-point-2 on Friday to 7-point-9 yesterday. Anything below one on the transmission rate scale means the outbreak is declining. New Jersey's seven-day average of confirmed positive tests is down by 16 percent from a week ago and down 29 percent from one month ago.

Lawmakers are pushing for a bill that would speed up plans for digital driver's licenses in Pennsylvania. The new legislation would not eliminate the need for a physical copy of a license but would provide an additional way for people to show identification. It's not yet clear if the digital licenses would be available through an app or accessible on mobile devices in some other way.

A bill that would let local police seize so-called boom cars -- and in some cases, destroy them -- is heading to the full state Assembly in Trenton for a vote. The proposal cleared a state Assembly committee unanimously yesterday. The bill would enable local municipalities to adopt ordinances that would declare boom cars as nuisance vehicles. This would let police impound the vehicles instead of simply issuing tickets. Boom cars are equipped with audio systems that can be heard from a distance and are often used for outdoor gatherings.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni says he's not at all concerned young quarterback Jalen Hurts will be overwhelmed by the pressure of playing in the NFC Championship Game Sunday afternoon against San Francisco. "Just because the moment is big doesn't mean he's going to all of a sudden change who he's been for the last three years he's been in Philadelphia. He's going to have the same demeanor. You just don't all of sudden change just because the situation changes," Sirianni says. The Eagles are two-and-a-half point favorites to advance to Super Bowl 57.
