Accu-Weather's Joe Lundberg says 48 hours of very, very cold weather has begun. "It's just going to be nasty. Winds are going to be gusting 30 and 40 miles an hour today and even tonight I still think there will be a gusty wind. Our overnight low will drop to seven and the Accu-Weather RealFeel will be 10 to maybe 15 degrees below zero. That's dangerously cold overnight tonight," Lundberg says. Today's temperatures will tumble all day and tomorrow's high is expected to only reach 24 degrees.

The Lehigh Valley Zoo will be closed today and Saturday due to expected cold temperatures. The closing is for the safety of animals, employees and guests, according to zoo officials. The zoo is expected to reopen 10 a.m. Sunday.

More than two years after the Capitol Hill riot, a Monroe County man is now being charged for his alleged activities that day. 30-year-old Dustin Sargent, of Kunkletown, has been arrested on charges he clashed with police officers during the riot. Nearly 1,000 people across the U.S. have been charged with federal crimes in the Capitol attack.

A big warehouse plan in Lehigh County inches forward. The Upper Macungie Township Board of Supervisors has granted preliminary approval of an Air Products plan to construct three new warehouses totaling 2.61 million square feet, or 60 acres of the company's former headquarters. Along with the three warehouses, the project also proposes access from two locations, both of which are on Cetronia Road. The original plans submitted included just one site access point. There is no entry point for trucks going to the warehouses from Hamilton Boulevard.

One church in Allentown says it has acquired another Allentown church. Resurrected Life Community Church, located at 144 North Ninth Street, said it acquired Zion's Reformed United Church of Christ, better known as the Liberty Bell Church in the 600 block of Hamilton Street. The deal was first announced back in October, but now the transaction has been finalized. As for the church's Liberty Bell Museum, the Resurrected Life Community Church says preserving the museum is important to them and they want to make sure its history continues.

It's 28-to-60 years in prison for Dondre Simon-Jeremiah. The Easton man was sentenced Thursday for the January 2021 killing of 28-year-old Dwayne Carter on North Jordan Street in Allentown. Police said Simon-Jeremiah told them he had gone to buy marijuana from Carter but the two men got into an argument and then Simon-Jeremiah pulled a gun, killed Carter, grabbed the drugs and left.

Students and staff at Innovative Arts Academy in Catasauqua learned from home Thursday after an unspecified threat. The school says it is working with Catasauqua police to investigate the threat.

A missing Carbon County teenager has been found safe. State police did not comment further on where or when 15-year-old Alexis Gibb was found. She had been missing since Sunday evening, and was last seen in the Bath area.

Another new tenant is coming to Center Valley’s Promenade Shops. Handmade Mystic Healing Crystals and Jewelry will open its third location, and second in the Lehigh Valley, in March. Its other local store is on S. 4th St. in Emmaus. There’s also a shop in Doylestown. The business offers crystal healing as well as jewelry along with loose gemstones, crystals and other handmade items.

As the Pennsylvania House remains adjourned, until later this month, current Speaker Mark Rozzi's continued his state-wide listening tour. On Wednesday he was in State College, where he heard from a resident who is not happy how things have worked out so far. "My point is this. Aren't we supposed to be living in a democracy. What we're seeing in Harrisburg is not a democracy and Pennsylvanians don't want more politics," one man told Rozzi. Meanwhile, there's been speculation Rozzi may not be the speaker if the democrats take control of the house after some upcoming special elections.

A new mid-fiscal-year report on the commonwealth's financial health says residents and lawmakers both should be alarmed about certain factors. The forecast from the top administrator for the state's Independent Fiscal Office says lower-income consumers are not in a very good position at this point. Wages are expected to decrease over three and a half percent as money from the federal government's stimulus funds, as well as emergency SNAP benefits, will soon come to an end. He also says, though, that the state is experiencing its lowest unemployment rate on record; it was at four-point-oh percent for the fourth quarter of last year.

Hersheypark has announced the permanent removal of "The Whip" ahead of the 2023 season. "The Whip" was purchased by Milton Hershey in 1937 and had been located at various points in the park before being removed in 1976. It was later brought back to Hersheypark's Midway America section in 1997.

There's now an online effort to get the mom of two Super Bowl players to conduct the coin flip for the big game. Donna Kelce is the mother of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his brother, Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Jason Kelce. They will become the first brothers to play against each other in a Super Bowl when they take the field on February 12th in Glendale, Arizona. The person who started the petition at change-dot-org says their plea to the NFL is expected to pass 25-thousand signatures very soon. Backers would also like to see Donna Kelce wear her split jersey if she gets to do the honors. It features her Philly son's number on the back and her Chief's son's number on the front.
