A man is dead following a police pursuit and shooting in Allentown early Monday morning. It happened around 3:40 Monday morning when police were called for reports of a man waving a firearm in the area of 6th and Turner streets. Allentown Police say the man, identified as 27-year-old Dominick Hogans, of Allentown, fled, which prompted officers to chase after him. During the pursuit, police say Hogans showed a gun and fired at them. Officers returned fire, striking and killing Hogans.

Lehigh Valley Health Network wants to build another so-called “neighborhood” hospital. LVHN has submitted plans for a small hospital on the site of the old Champion spark plug factory on Main Street in Hellertown. If Hellertown approves the plans, it would be the third micro-hospital under the LVHN umbrella. One is being built in Lower Macungie Township and a second is under construction in Montgomery County, just south of Boyertown. The hospital would be an acute care hospital, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Lehigh County and Allentown officials will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Wire Mill Bridge at noon Thursday. That bridge, which takes Lehigh Street/Route 145 across the Little Lehigh Creek, was closed in May 2022 and was supposed to open by the end of last year but that was delayed.

Warren County's only bowling alley, Warren Lanes Recreation Center, has announced it's closing at the end of the month. It's to be replaced by a 24-hour QuickChek. The developer submitted plans for the convenience store last year as it was busy opening four new stores across the state within a six-week period. Warren Lanes had opened as one of three major commercial centers for local bowling in the 1950s. Most recently, it reopened under new management after being closed during the pandemic.

An arrest has been made in a cold case that dates back to 1975. The district attorney's office in Delaware County has filed charges against an 83-year-old man in Georgia for the kidnapping and slaying of then 8-year-old Gretchen Harrington. Jack Stollsteimer describes the ex-minister's statement. "He got her in the car, drove her to a secure location and asked her to take off her clothes. She refused. He then ejaculated in front of her and beat her to death with his hands," Stollsteimer says. Suspect David Zanstra was a former Pennsylvania church pastor and a family friend to Gretchen Harrington.

A cousin is describing a long history of abuse, substance use, and suicide in the family of convicted synagogue shooter Robert Bowers. Defense attorneys called Naomi Grimm to the stand yesterday as they continue their efforts to convince the jury that Bowers should not be put to death. Grimm described the torment and abuse Bowers' grandmother suffered while living in a children's home in the 1930's, a situation that set up a pattern of mental illness that continued into the next generation. Psychiatrists who treated Bowers after a suicide attempt when he was 13 were also called to testify.

Two Pennsylvania communities have received a combined one-million dollars in relief from Norfolk Southern following February's train derailment across the border in East Palestine, Ohio. In a statement, Governor Shapiro says the allotment released this week is on top of one-million-dollars the rail company has already repaid to Pennsylvania fire departments and first responders.

Governor Phil Murphy is creating a commission that will study the impacts of social media on kids across New Jersey. It will also look at how social media impacts students' mental and physical health. The panel will be made of 19 members, and they'll be required to release a final report that detail its findings.
