The state is hosting a public hearing tonight for a proposed 800-acre development in Upper Mount Bethel. The purpose of the hearing will be to gather information on National Pollutant Discharge and Elimination System permit for storm water protection. Six-million square feet of industrial buildings are on the land in the township. They are bordered by River Road, Potomac Street and North Delaware Drive, which is also known as Route 611.
State Police in Berks County say a man faces charges after his gun discharged inside a Hamburg bar. Police were called to Pappy T's Pub and Lounge early Sunday morning, following a report of a shooting that injured two people. Police say 37-year-old Thomas Fronina pulled a pistol from his pocket to show another patron, and discharged a single round towards the floor. A 43-year-old woman was struck in the lower leg by the bullet. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Police said a 45-year-old man was also struck by a bullet fragment, resulting in a minor injury.
The House Judiciary Committee has set a vote for this week on a gun safety measure. It would allow parents to be held jointly responsible for gun crimes committed by their children. Its sponsor says up to 90 percent of guns used by minors in suicides, unintentional shootings, and school shootings were found in the child's home or a relative's home.
The House Judiciary Committee has set a vote for this week to consider a bill that would require safe storage of firearms in homes that have children. HB1652 is sponsored primarily by Judiciary Committee chairman Representative Tim Briggs, a Democrat from Montgomery County. He says failure to comply with the requirement would result in a third-degree felony in several circumstances. Those include if the death or grievous injury is cause by the minor. It could also be summary offense if a child is found in unlawful possession of a firearm.
The Jewish Federation of the Lehigh Valley held an event Sunday in support of Israel. One of the organizers of the event explains why it needed to be done. "We believe without the country of Israel there would be a big threat for the Jewish community around the world," the woman says. People at the event also wrote letters of thanks and encouragement to Israeli service members.
Chris Christie is in Israel. New Jersey's former governor and current Republican presidential candidate toured some of the areas hit by last month's Hamas terror attack. "Leaders in our country, need to see this for themselves. Because, you can't really understand it until you see it," Christie says. He adds America must remain in Israel's corner.
Penn State Football's offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich has been "relieved of his duties," the team said in a statement Sunday. Yurcich's firing comes after the 10th-ranked Nittany Lions struggled offensively in a 24-15 loss to the No. 3 Michigan Wolverines on Saturday. "We thank Mike for his contributions over the last three years but feel it is in our program’s best interest to make a change at this time," Penn State head coach James Franklin said.
Philadelphia 76ers guard Kelly Oubre is recovering after being hit by a car Saturday night in Philadelphia. Head coach Nick Nurse updates Oubre's condition. "He's back home. I think he's doing okay," Nurse says. He is expected to miss significant play time due to his injuries from the collision, but the team doesn't believe the injuries are season-ending. Police are looking for the driver who hit Oubre.
