TODAY IN HISTORY HOSPITAL LAYOFFS...  Sacred Heart Hospital, in Allentown laid off 5% of its work force Thursday in an effort to turn around the financially strapped hospital so it can continue to serve the sick and needy in downtown Allentown. According to the Morning Call 76 employees lost their jobs through involuntary layoffs while 39 positions were eliminated through attrition and 15 people were transferred to other positions. Additional employees had the number of hours they work reduced. in total, 10% of the hospital's active work force was affected by the announcement. BACK AT THE TABLE...  The Souderton Area School District and the union representing more than 500 striking teachers both say they want to reach a settlement and will head back to the negotiating table. Souderton Area School District Teachers picketed on the scheduled first day of school Tuesday after a six-hour Labor Day negotiating session failed to produce significant progress. District Solicitor and Negotiator, Jeffrey Sultanik says face-to-face negotiations will continue today and the district is ready to compromise.  HANNA IS COMING...  If you were hoping to catch some sun and fun at the shore this weekend, Accu-Weather Meteorologist Doctor Joe Sobel says you can forget Saturday. "This is not going to be a good beech day at the shore. Saturday there could be wind gusts of 50 mph or even higher depending on the path of the storm and some heavy rainfall." Hanna will also make the Lehigh Valley's Saturday a washout with a half-inch to an inch of rain with winds up to 40 miles per hour expected. LET'S GO STATE...  Even though Oregon State lost its season opener to Stanford last weekend, Penn State Coach Joe Paterno says the Beavers have plenty of weapons on offense. "I think they're very good and I am concerned about them. So I came away from that game thinking we're going to have our hands full. Nothing's changed."
