Subject: catching up

Gunther,  Thought I would update you on why I haven't emailed lately, to be honest, Pawlowski bought me off.  I have been given the walk around frozen popsicle concession for the home hockey games.  If I can make a living at those forty games selling ice in the winter,  and if my neck can support the  strap and heavy box, remains to be seen.
Anyway, sorry I sold out, but my donkey said he's getting too old to help me fight the windmill.

Subject: Back To The Future

It's the year 2018 and Mayor Guridy has just received the long anticipated study from A&P Associates. Advice from Afflerbach and Pawlowski doesn't come cheap, $475,000, but as City Council President Cynthia Mota said,"Sometimes it pays to invest in the best." Some of the recommendations to revive Hamilton Street and it's ailing arena complex are nothing less than brilliant. Reilly's dormant City Center Three and Four will be conveyed to The Allentown Housing Authority, to be converted into rent subsidized housing.  The Lanta Terminal will become the Park Department's long anticipated intercity skate and dog park, Pit Bull Center.  The  bus transfer stops are to be placed back on Hamilton Street between 7th and 9th, creating foot traffic and enhancing a sense of security. Meter rates will be reduced, once again accepting quarters and other coins. The old Allentown Brew Pub, closed since the Arena Sports Bar opened, will be torn down to create a convenient pocket parking lot.  The renovations would be implemented by the Butz Company, and as is the policy, no estimates will be provided.
Guridy will make the announcement early next week, and a translation in English will be available.

Gunther,  Lazy Boy has a new recliner called the Mayor Pawlowski,  it sucks the money out your pockets when you sit in it.

Subject: Huffington Post, A Electronic Tabloid

I see less tabloids at the supermarket checkout. Perhaps this is because the main stream media has itself turned tabloid. Perhaps nothing illustrates this better than the internet giant, The Huffington Post. Day after day they carry water for President Obama by misrepresenting Mitt Romney. Photographs from one occasion are routinely mismatched with the caption from another, to illustrate their distortions. While the word Post suggests news from a bygone era, Huffington is strictly checkout counter sensationalism. Unfortunately, for the news hungry, they are not alone. While MSNBC and FOX have always wore their bias on their sleeve, CNN and the networks are now adopting the format. With Romney catching up in the polls, despite the media advantage, it appears that the public can comprehend the difference between news and propaganda.

Subject: Pawlowski's Hole

Allentown eventually had success with former mayor Heydt's hole, eventually the PPL Plaza was built.  Although Pawlowski's hole is much bigger, and has cost much more, eventually private developers would build real buildings for a real market. With home hockey games only 40 nights a year, and the Sands already having booked first rate acts as a draw to their casino, the arena is doomed to failure. The hotel plan is a moronic pipe dream. Who would want to deal with 7th and hamilton for
a medical appointment at the proposed sports medicine center?   After 5
years of failure, the arena authority will hire a new manager.  In 10 more years, allentown will tear it down. i prefer leaving an expensive hole.

Subject: Save the Bridge

Gunther,  although Don Cunningham led the hootenanny at Ag Hall for the County's 200th birthday,  he really doesn't give a hoot about history.
He, and his director of destruction, plan on tearing down the old stone arch bridge by Union Terrace.  They claim that the bridge, although structurally sound, isn't designated historic anyway, and that they have already budgeted the money.  The bridge was constructed in
1824 and rebuilt in 1980.  When you tear down a bridge that's still good, you're wasting taxpayer money.  When you tear down a good bridge that is historic,  you're stealing our culture.  The meeting and decision is this Wednesday evening, in Government Center, at 7:30pm.  I ask your listeners to join me, and attempt to save the Reading Road Bridge, and part of our past.

Subject: Underwater Mortgages

Gunther,  years ago if you bought a house during an up cycle, and had
to sell it during a down cycle, you simply said that you lost money.
Now, people cry that they are "underwater", and worst, the government screams with them.  Houses were meant as long term investments,  not as an ATM machine,  guaranteed by some government agency.
